We pride ourselves in absolutely exquisite engraving. Finely hand worked, engraving on jewellery is a real art form and there are very few seal engravers around in the UK these days. We work with three superb engravers who are probably the best in the country. To their credit they have worked on fabulous engraved gold and silver pieces for the British Royal Family, and many other dignitaries around the world.

The quality of the engraving is always dependent on the quality of the gold the engraver is working with. Consequently we only use stamped gold rings not the inferior quality of rings made by the 'lost wax' system. The 'lost wax' system incorporates a mould filled with wax - molten gold is poured in - this unfortunately means you can get air bubbles in the gold - this makes the engravers job very difficult - it is rather like engraving on 'Aero' you can be engraving away and suddenly you will hit a bubble which means you cannot engrave as finely. Stamped gold is made with a hand operated machine press which stamps the gold consequently meaning you get very dense solid gold with no imperfections. This is the only manufacture process suitable for fine seal engraving.

Engraving on the ultra hard surfaces of gemstones is an incredibly difficult, exacting skill. Special engraving tools are required and the quality of the gems are paramount. Any gem with flaws, would crack at time of engraving so we only supply the best. There are virtually no engravers left in the UK to our knowledge that can seal engrave on gemstone with the quality required. We are fortunate to have one of the best gemstone engravers in the world who engraves in unbelievable detail. The quality of his work is a sight to behold.

Seals are always engraved in reverse. This way the wax impression should you choose to use it as a seal comes out in positive. This is the traditional way. Initials and Monograms are engraved in positive as these are not expected to be used as seals - only 'for sight'. It is normal for the crest only to be engraved on a signet ring. Please note a crest is different from a coat of arms, which includes, shield, bearers, helm, mottos and other flourishes. The crest is the icon, emblem, or heraldic animal that rests on the torse (rope wreath) on top of the helm (helmet). It is very unusual to engrave a whole coat of arms on a seal and in most cases this is impossible to do so effectively. Therefore it is only the crest that is depicted. We can also engrave the motto under your crest. This looks very effective although it means the crest and seal will be smaller. There is an extra engraving charge for including the motto. We can also engrave a date or initials or special message on the inside of the band. There is also an extra engraving charge for this service- details are on the order pack which will be sent to you.

We also engrave rings with your initials to your specification. Here is an example of some of the fabulous styles we can engrave. Please note that initials are usually engraved in positive 'for sight' unlike seals that are engraved in reverse. heraldic crest ring engravingPlease quote style on order form when ordering

Please note style D is a seal engraved crest with a single initial underneath. There is an extra surcharge for this style which we will quote for dependent on complexity of the crest.
