Cushion Signet Rings
The S&C Cushion Signet Ring is a popular classic if you want something slightly different.
The cushion rings have a larger, square looking face which gives slightly more area to engrave on. This particularly suits the larger more complicated crest or those with a substantial crest and long motto. Sometimes the shape and nature of the crest will fit better into a square shape rather than an oval.
The Cushion shapes are produced from high density stampings just like the ovals, we use the same dies as originally crafted by hand since 1860 in London. They are generally more substantial and weigh a bit more than the equivalent oval ring so if you want to make a real statement this is the one.

Cushion Signet Ring Examples
Here is a small portfolio of our work showing most of the variations of Cushion Signet Ring you can have. 9 and 18 carat yellow gold is most popular. We can also make them in Rose Gold, White Gold and Platinum but please note these do take longer to produce.
18 Carat White Gold Cushion Signet Ring.
Cushion rings are available in 18 carat white gold and can look spectacular like this beautiful example seal engraved with griffins head and coronet. We no longer like to recommend 9 carat white gold for reasons we can explain when we discuss your requirements but saying that, they can be done if you wish!
9 Carat Small Cushion Surface Engraved with Initials.
A lady’s cushion ring looking substantial and bold even though it is a delicate ring and remains feminine. Initials work very well on cushion rings and allow more space to do something a bit more elaborate than the simplicity of this design.
9 Carat Medium Size Cushion Signet Ring.
This shows a medium sized cushion ring for a lady. The size of the engraving space offered by the cushion has allowed the swan to be quite large and fills the square shape admirably.
9 Carat Heavy Weight Large Cushion - Seal Engraved with a Fine Example of Cerberus.
Cushion rings feel much more substantial by nature of their larger square type face and wider shoulders. We also recommend them when you really need to do justice to a particular seal engraving design. Like this really fine engraving of Cerberus (three headed dog from Greek mythology).
9 Carat Yellow Gold Medium Cushion Signet Ring.
This is a very good example of how a cushion shaped ring is suitable for a wider engraving design. Here the engraving is of a coat of arms with two eagle supporters either side of the ‘arms’ and a motto underneath. It would be very difficult to engrave this Coat of Arms on an Oval ring so a cushion was the perfect choice. This medium sized ring has a head size of 12mm x 10mm and is very refined in its shape and balance.
Yellow Gold Cushion Signet Ring.
The heavyweight cushion signet has a very substantial feel about it. The Cushion shape provides a larger space for more detailed seal engraving and allows a long motto to be included. The shoulders are full and generous but the fine shaping still ensures a look of great elegance and style. It looks shapely and naturally balanced.
9 Carat Heavy Weight Cushion Signet Ring - Seal Engraved with a Bulls Head 'Affrontee' and Motto.
You can really see the square type of face with this cushion ring. Also you can see the much wider section across the shoulders which makes a unique and substantial ring. A real ‘statement’ you might say! We particularly like the space it gave to this lovely engraving of a bulls head from the front and gave plenty of space for a motto in a ribbon too.
9 Carat Heavy Weight Cushion Signet Ring with deep and large Engraving of Wolfs Head Crest.
Sometimes you just want to have your crest as large as possible. The detail you can get in to the larger cushion is quite significant. Of course it sometimes makes the engravers job easier as there is more space to be really creative and give justice to the design.
White Gold Cushion Signet Ring.
As displayed here the cushion signet provides plenty of space for more detailed engraving designs. Here an African Prince’s arms. This white gold cushion ring is the same shape as the yellow gold version, remaining very substantial yet the fine shaping still ensures a look of great elegance and style.
Weight Options
As with the Oval range, we offer the cushion shape either in a heavy or standard weight. The cushion rings are generally a bit heavier as they carry more gold in the shoulders which are wider. The head is roughly the same thickness as the equivalent oval ring but they have fuller shoulders sweeping down from the head.
Heavy Weight Cushion
Available in all sizes; Small C1H, Medium C2H, Large C3H and Extra Large C4H.
Standard Weight Cushion
It is possible to have a more delicate looking cushion ring. We offer two only in standard cushion; the Lady’s Small Cushion (code C1) and the Gentleman’s Large Cushion (C3).The Lady’s small cushion in standard is a popular ring and looks finer and more feminine. We recommend the Large Cushion in standard for surface engraved monogram work which requires less depth in the head than seal engraving a crest.
Every ring is shaped by hand and each one is different depending on finger size but as a rule of thumb the heavy weight ring head is 1 – 1.5mm thicker than the standard. The heavy weight ring carries more gold in the shoulders and is thicker around the band. All dimensions and weights quoted can vary slightly depending on finger size
